Tuesday Night Reflections

March 18, 2009

Just a few thoughts before heading off to bed…

  • LONG week… Why is it the weeks that we think are going to be easy and enjoyable turn out to be a pain, and the weeks I dread or think will be difficult are never as hard as I thought!
  • The week ended with a lot of meetings.
  • Friday night the team and I got to look around the building we are planning on using as a new location for our Sunday Services and community outreach.
  • The weather has been beautiful the last few days and our family cannot get enough of it.
  • We have been enjoying long walks, cool breezes, and the grill!
  • “If you cannot be tested, then you cannot be trusted”
  • Trials and tribulations will come, so we must ensure our attitude is one that embraces the trials as opportunities.
  • Many Christians say that God would never test us or allow us to go through trials
  • Umm… please read Gen 22, Matthew 4, and James 1, 1 Peter and get back to me.
  • The last seven days have been a pretty down time for me and the family. My family needed the rest time and a little more family time.
  • I put in 8 or 9 hour days instead of the normal 11 or 12.
  • I also took  most of Monday off and we went out to lunch and to Monkey Joe’s play center.
  • It may sound  a little contradictory to say that the week was long, and restful at the same time.
  • The warfare and pressure this week was immense for me, but Ashlee and the kids needed my attention more and needed me around more during the last few days.
  • So through out this restful and enjoyable time, there was some intense times of prayer and warfare.
  • Don’t Get it? That is okay. When someone is working full-time, raising a family, and church planting the roles and days seem to get very mixed and very complex.
  • Today I broke through some of the warfare and I feel much less discombobulated. PRAISE GOD!
  • I don’t get the NCAA selection Saturday process, but at least NCAA basketball has a play off system. The NCAA should glean some information from basketball to set up a football playoff system.

Enough Random thoughts for tonight!

TWISI

March 5, 2009

TWISI = The Way I See It!

At Overflow Church we are about to embark on an amazing journey to discover and evaluate the way you see the world!

In life many people ponder about things, but few take the time to reflect on how they see things, or why they see them the way that they do.  In a world full of moral and social relativism, the truth is in short supply.

I genuinely believe that we will have fun and enjoy the provocative discussions that will ensue during these 6 short weeks.

The ground that is covered in these 6 weeks is emence, and  will stretch you to the point that your mind might throb a little.

All in all, I believe this will change your life and the way you see the World forever.

Overflowers… start praying now… for God to shape, stretch, and challenge you through TWISI!

Tuesday Night Reflections!

December 24, 2008

It was Christmas Eve – Eve! Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse! (So I thought) The stocking had not been hung yet, but the Christmas tree and decor was glistening. The kids were snuggled in bed in hopes that Jolly old St. Nick would be preparing His sleigh!

I had just settled in for a quick power nap, so that Ashlee and I could watch “the nativity story”. When rose such a patter, that I arose from my sleep. As I arose slowly I began to understand that patter, was really the tap, tap, tap of the office keyboard, for behold my wife was still on Facebook, or Fashion Wars to be exact! So I quickly went in and chatted with her, only to find out my power nap was two hours in a zap! Now that you know why my Tuesday Night Reflections were not last night, I will post them this day, Wednesday the true Christmas Eve!

A few reflections before I rush off to work this morning:

  • The Packers lost another game by only a few points on Sunday. It was a bummer, but not too surprising. (It makes me wonder if they simply cannot finish strong.)
  • As Christians we are encouraged by Paul in several different places to finish strong. I have heard of and seen too many  Christians who are running the race strong, but cannot seem to finish strong. I want to be a Christian who is known to finish what I start, and to be at my best at the end, not just the beginning.
  • Today is Christmas Eve, and I cannot get over how much God has blessed us this year. We have had so much blessings this year.
  • This is our first Christmas in our New House!
  • We have a new Fridge (very similar to Ash’s dream fridge)
  • Our girls are healthy, and getting so many amazing things for Christmas!
  • Santa is bringing them their most request gift! (Guitars, keyboards, and drums)
  • They have requested them so they can learn to Worship God with instruments. SERIOUSLY! Yea God!
  • Ashlee and I have a wonderful marriage, and love each other now more than when we first got married.
  • Our church has potential, and I believe we are finding our stride, so that we can finish stronger in 2009 than we start. (Definitely the case for 2008!)

Those are my thoughts before work on Christmas Eve!

Tuesday Night Reflections

December 17, 2008

It is a little past midnight, and I wanted to get some of my pondering and reflections typed up before bed.

  1. I just downloaded Fire-Fox (So 2009) due to the IE problems and recommend that you do the same. (Not only is it safe, it is awesome!)
  2. I will finally be on Face Book this week, and hope to begin following some people on Twitter. (Again, finally caught up to 2009 living)
  3. I am not sure where I will find the time for my new blog, facebook, and twitter even though people ensure me that Facebook and twitter don’t take up much time.
  4. I have been stressed this evening for no good reason. I was not anxious or worried, just stressed. Have you ever had that heavy feeling and not been able to completely been able to put your finger on it. Well that was me today.  I came home from work, and honestly spent the better part of 2 1/2 hours processing. Pondering one might say!
  5. The last week has been good. Very good!
  6. Wednesday was our last regular Life Group of 2008.
  7. Thursday Night was a great family night with Pizza and Movies with all the girls.
  8. Friday Night was our Christmas Party (I already blogged about that)
  9. Saturday I shoveled our deck off (10 inches) and then I grilled baby-back ribs. (One of my favorite grill items)
  10. Sunday was an awesome day at church. The worship was absolutely wonderful, and God presence was amazing. Then the word lived up to the hype God had been speaking to me about. As a body, we agreed on seeing some fallen away Christians coming home in 2009.
  11. My Steelers finally clinched their division in the AFC guaranteeing a play-off spot. ut
  12. Last but not least, I am playing for the Fantasy Football Championship in our league this coming weekend!

In all seriousness, Fire-Fox is the way to go for Internet browsing, and I recommend the Tinsel Town package for the Holidays.

Christmas Party Number 1

December 6, 2008

In a little over an one hour I will be going to my first official Christmas party of the season.

It is a monumental moment, as it kicks off the series of 5 Christmas parties in the next two weeks. I prepared for the evenings event with various activities.

  • 7:00   AM     Shoveled some snow (2 inches)
  • 8:30    AM     Men’s Breakfast (Biscuits and Gravy  – I miss Texas)
  • 10:00 AM     Boom Blox on the Wii with my lovely wife.
  • 11:30  AM     Mario Kart on the Wii with my kiddos!
  • 2:00    PM     Puzzle and games on the floor with the kiddos!
  • 5:00    PM      Read Blogs, make comments, and leave this message.

How many Christmas Parties are you attending this season? I know my 5 is no where near the high mark!

things rattling around in my mind from the book of Acts!

December 2, 2008

A few thoughts that have been rattling around in my mind lately from the book of Acts lately…

  • The book of Acts is disturbing for those who desire comfort and status quo…God has never embraced either…neither should we.
  • In Acts 1:8 Jesus said THE distinguishing mark of the Holy Spirit would be a desire to take the Gospel to the rest of the world.  Seriously, look at it…when the Holy Spirit falls He said THEN we would be His witnesses.
  • This sort of blows the, “we are just going to be deep people who love Scripture but not people” churches completely out of the water!
  • In Acts 1:21-26 the Apostles were setting in another apostle to replace Judas Iscariot. In reading this I realized they came together, they prayed, they took action. (Are we taking too much time to process instead of coming together, praying, and doing something!)
  • The passages in Acts 2:42-47 is one of my favorite in the whole Bible. The people of the early church spent day by day continuing with one mind, breaking bread together, and taking meals together with gladness and sincerety of heart. It states they were praising God and having favor with all the people. Then in verse 47 it states that the Lord was adding to their numbers daily.
  • The above passage makes me wonder why we are astonished that the Lord is not adding to our numbers daily! (The Church in America is doing some of these things, but we have not been able to get them all together in a single body)
  • In Acts 3 we are encouraged to repent and return, so that are sins will be wiped away, in order that the times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
  • Acts 4:13 is one amazing scripture. It proves that God is looking for ordinary people like  you and me to lead His church and see His Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven.

I hope you enjoyed my quick thoughts on my recent ponderings over the Book of Acts. These are my thoughts on the random things I wrote down as I read through it . I will post some more about Acts in a few days!
